Our butterflies have been sent off to fend for themselves! Ask your students what they can tell you about the butterfly lifecycle and the observations we made while watching our butterflies come of age.

Art:
Kindergarten has been doing a lot of painting over the last few weeks! Have a look at some of our projects below.

Library Books:
It's June and the library is checking to make sure that books are returned. If you have not already done so, please return all library books as soon as possible.

Father Day Art and Poem:
The Kindergarten kids have been working on a poem to present to Dads, Grandpas or Uncles this weekend. Have a look in Yellow Folders for some art and a copy of the poem.

Upcoming Events and Previous Events!

EYE Evaluations:
Most students received a copy of their Early Years Evaluations in their yellow folders. Please feel free to let me know if you have any questions regarding the evaluations. If you did not receive an EYE sheet, it is because your child had all greens in the fall and received all greens again in the spring.

Beach Day:
Beach Day is Wednesday, June 6th! Students and staff are encouraged to dress up in their best (school and weather appropriate beach wear. Maybe some sunglasses and a beach hat? Maybe a beach pail and flip flops? Students who dress up will be awarded Spirit Points for their school houses.

Sports Day:
Elementary Sports Day is coming up! There is a schedule change that day and both K classes will be participating. Sports Day is Wednesday June 27th from 9:10 until 12:50. K-4 students will be walking to Stanley Park, participating in sports day events and eating their lunch at the park before walking back to the school. Kindergarten students will be dismissed following our return to school at 12:50. We are in need of volunteers! Please let Ms. Haines or Ms. Quast know if you are able to volunteer with us that day.

Caterpillars ---> Butterflies:
We have been watching our class caterpillars work their way to being butterflies. Ask your kids about the lifecycle of a butterfly and the different observations they have been making.

Field Trip to Safety City:
A huge thank you goes out to our brave field trip volunteers! Thank you so much for helping us to make these trips possible. The students had a fantastic time and learned a lot about pedestrian safety.

We have a field trip and scheduling change coming up! We will be going to Safety City on May 24th from 9:05 to 11:30. Students will need to wear a helmet on this field trip. Should your child not have a helmet, please let Miss Haines know and we will find an appropriate helmet to use. Please see the information below about appropriate helmet sizing.
All students are required to bring their own bicycle helmets for safety reasons.
Please see diagram below for instructions on a proper fitting helmet.

Student Lead Conferences and K Happenings

Student Lead Conferences:
Student Lead Conferences are coming up! Prior to Spring Break, on the evening of the 23rd and on the 24th from 9:00am to 1:00pm we will be doing Student Lead Conferences. These conferences are not traditional sit-down interviews with the teacher. This is a time for parents and guardians to come into the classroom with their children. The children will lead their adults on a tour through their work and classroom. There will be some direction from the teacher and a "scavenger hunt" sheet will be provided. As there are multiple families in the room at the same time, this is not a time to discuss student progress at length with the teacher. Please keep an eye on the weekly emails from the office for when Conference Manager will be open for bookings.

Art:
The students have been working on ocean themed art projects and poems as well as some seasonal art. Have a look at some of the fine motor work below.

Pink Shirt Day:
Kindergarten participated in Pink Shirt Day and had some great discussions regarding what being a good friend and being kinds means to us.

Dr. Seuss:
Kindergarten has been celebrating Dr. Seuss' birthday this week by reading his books and working on some Dr. Seuss inspired drawings. While discussing the book "Oh The Places You'll Go" the students discussed some of the places they would like to visit in their lives. Some of the highlights are below:
*"To ride the Polar Express!"
*"To Calloway Park!"
*"To see fireworks!"
*"To Hawaii!"
*"To a big mountain!"
*"To see a remote control tank!"
*"To Edmonton!"

Field Trip:
In May, we will be going on a field trip to Safety City to learn about bike and pedestrian safety. Students are expected to bring their own bike helmets for safety and health reasons. If your child does not have a bike helmet, please let Miss Haines know as soon as possible in order to have time to find appropriate helmets.

The Family Dance was a huge success! Thank you to all of our amazing parent volunteers for putting on such a great community event and thank you to our school families for coming out to dance!

Art and Fine Motor Work:
Kindergarten has been working hard to improve fine motor skills through art. We are working to complete projects individually and as a group.

Valentine's Day:
Valentine's Day was a fun day with a focus on friendship! Thank you for all of the effort put in by everyone to help out their children.
